Funghi

The people of Central Italy are passionate about mushrooms. Mushroom pickers zealously comb the wooded areas from late summer to the end of autumn. The popular porcini mushroom is just one of the many varieties that find their way into the baskets of mushroom fanciers every year. In some areas, the enthusiasm for gathering autumn mushrooms reaches such a pitch that the authorities are obliged to place an official restriction on the amount that can be collected per person per day of six and a half pounds (three kilograms).
